The Hopkins County B.A.S.S. Club (HCBC) has been around since the 60’s with a mission to provide educational, conservation, and sportsmanship opportunities to our community.
For 30 years we have hosted our annual Fall B.A.S.S. Classic (FBC), an open bass fishing tournament on Lake Barkley, the last Saturday in September with a payout of over 100% of the angler entry fees. This year we’ll be celebrating our 31st event on Sept. 28.
The HCBC uses the money raised through the FBC for our community activities throughout the year. We are able to provide meals at Thanksgiving and Christmas for families who need help. 105 food baskets were given out in 2023. Anglers fishing our tournament donated hundreds of new books and toys that are given to the Salvation Army and the WTTL Christmas toy drive. In 2023 they donated a truckload of toys (over 200 and $150 cash). We also provide needed financial support to Bright Life Farms (www.brightlifefarms.org), Breaking Bread Ministries, and the Christian Food Bank.
We have supported the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) annual fishing tournament for many years, but in 2021 the HCBC accepted the responsibility for co-hosting the Indiana and Kentucky chapter of the PVA event along with the Lake Barkley Tourism Commission. A video of the 2019 event as well as a promo for this year can be seen on our website (www.fallbassclassic.com).
Members and spouses also help run the Kiwanis Club’s annual “Take a Kid Fishing” event in June at Madisonville City Park. Club members, with lots of help from wives and family, provide the people power to make all of these events happen.
